Powell Butte

Pretty Day in Powell Butte, no clouds and almost 60.

Herd has been moved up to fields above canal.

This guy was watching me.  Does he know he will be in the freezer next month?
There are also 2 new grand kittys, one for Liv and one for Auggie.  This is as of yet un-named number 2, about two pounds now but he has huge feet. He already knows the good hiding places so he may survive the owls I hope! :(

Roller Skates and Buffalo

Round up at Powell Butte Bison Ranch will be next weekend and there's lots of preparations under way.  Hope there is time to take a few pictures.  I was recently reminded of the song, "Can't Roller Skate In A Buffalo Herd." I agree.

Sandy Fundraiser

The Daily Paint Works site has already raised nearly $3000 for the victims of Sandy.  I just entered this small abstract to the auction; all proceeds will go to Sandy victims and all you have to do is go to the auction site via the little widget in the side bar or use this direct link> Sandy Auction.Carrie's painting and bid.  There are close to 200 paintings already so I'm sure you will find something you like. Thanks!

It's Been A Busy Summer

One of the best and most fun events in Portland this summer was family weekend at the Portland Art Museum, Artists from the Rental Sales Gallery painted out all around the museum. There were crowds of interested and curious onlookers. It was a wonderful sunny day, warm, and the park was full of happy artists to experience it. I couldn't resist doing a couple quick sketches myself while visiting with friends.

Mt Hood Plein Air Sketching

Had a chance to do a little sketching from Beth Verhayden's back yard view and I couldn't pass it up. It's the peak of summer and there is less snow and noticeable aerial perspective.  Just a quick sketch for now.  I'd like a larger one someday.

The Painting, 'Columbia Street' has gone off to a new home.  I'm sure they will be happy together! (New owner pictured with her new painting.)

Strawberries and Roses

I picked roses from my Niece's yard and put them in a little retro bottle. I wanted to practice drawing roses so I thought small ones would be easier.  My niece also processed 3 flats of strawberries but saved some fresh ones for strawberry shortcake over homemade biscuits. Yum! Feels like summer is here!

Lunch After the Painting Demo

Went to a really great figure demonstration at OSA today with Craig Srebnik.  He paints in oil but his approach is so universal to any opaque media.  Afterwards headed over to the Leaky Roof on SW 17th and Jefferson for Lunch and libations to fulfill yet another scavenger hunt item...... A Beer! A Mirror Pond, to be more specific.  Celeste and I sketched away taking full advantage of our model, Loretta!  What a trooper she is. :) !!  It's going to be a warm sunny weekend so I ought to knock a few more off the  scavenger list; stay tuned.

Farmers Market Wednesday in Park Blocks

Wednesdays Farmers Market is on in the South Park Blocks close to the Portland Art Museum.  I saw the sign yesterday while I went to see Rothko. Decided to come back this morning to do my first Scavenger Sketch with the Portland Urban Sketchers. The 'List' has 30 items, some are unique to this weird  little commune alone; some are universal.  If you want to join in, send me a link to your farmers market sketch in the comments and I'll add it below! One down and a bunch to go!

Crystal Springs on Monday

Finally, a really sunny day and I wasn't going to let anything distract me from getting out and painting.  I didn't think the park was going to be quite so crowded; everyone had the same idea. Not a cloud or a drop of rain in sight but there were several bus loads of visitors dropped off.  So, I didn't get as much done in the way of painting and sketching, the sun felt great and I took away some nice scenic shots.  See them below in the little slide show!!

Month End

Everything is changing this month, for me anyway.  Had to activate Facebook time line so I also created my own Art Page.  And all the blogger posting and dashboard has been updated........ My learning curve had to become a little flexible this week.  Looking forward to next month, how 'bout you?

He's A Little Sneak!

He waits until I'm not looking, then up on the table he goes. Bad Andy!   Next, the start of last Friday's painting.  I liked this state so much I'm using it for my Facebook profile.

Fine Art Friday- April 6th

We didn't have a model today but there were 4 or 5 still life set ups we were welcome to use. The studio was crowded with fellow painters, all really good caliber and pretty dedicated.  That's a good place for me to be on Fridays!  The rest of the days work will be on Alla Prima Portland blog.... Take a look

Posed Model Sketch

This was a quick sketch done from the posed model  that was different from the view I was painting.  I finished out the sketch after the session  working from photos.  I have enough information to probably do a nice portrait.  The last day of Spring vacation I was able to get in a little painting time with Liv.  (First time using the big palette) I gave her the idea for the flower pot, her idea to add the big yellow Ladybug. Fun!

Fine Art Friday

From last Friday, March 23rd.

We had a short session after an almost three hour demonstration by Craig Screbnik on his tonalist approach with a nude figure. His demos are so interesting because of his  analogies to opera and all the art history thrown in to boot.  Jodi, our model, is one of my plein air buddies but was willing to stay after for a couple hours  for a handful of slackers that didn't go outside to paint in the St Johns neighborhood.  We don't get to use the studio all that much due to workshops so I wanted to take advantage of Kat's wonderful space.  Didn't have to worry too much about bumping another artist's elbow so we could really relax and throw some paint!  See other's work from the day here.
Sorry to take so long between posts.  I got a little discouraged with the aunties painting and didn't get far.  Here is an update. Terrible picture of it but I haven't given up. I'll be back, Later!

My Mother's Sisters

I am working on a small format acrylic painting.  The composition is from a family photo taken in the 50's.  Fun stuff, I just wanted to do it for myself.  This is just the first coat.  Hope it turns out.  Wish me luck!
