Buddhist

I found out Carol Carter is going to teach a watercolor workshop in Portland next March! And ..... I wanted to paint this guy, especially after David L. and Mulind M. had their little paint off.  I had a photos from friends who had traveled to Nepal, Viet Nam, and Cambodia.

Sunday Parkways

I was at the Park Blocks downtown just to see the activity because lots of streets were closed to cars. Only bikes and pedestrians could could follow the 6 mile loop linking SW Portland through The Pearl and into NW Portland. (Wallace Park)  The whole event looks so family friendly; Kids on the back seat of Tandem bikes, Kids with training wheel bikes, and kids in bike trailers.  I sketched these little folding travel bikes while I took a little break in the shade.  The company that makes these is down in Eugene, called Bike Friday. They really looked slick and folded down to the size of a baby carrier in about 10 seconds. I think they picked great colors but you'll have to add lights and reflectors.
There is a glare on the sign but this is a couple blocks North of the Museum.  The Farmers Market is in this block on Wednesdays till 2pm.

All in the Family Bears

Happy little family of Panda bears; poppa - mama - baby.  This will be the last of the bears for a while. I may finish out the rest of the collection on Behind the Scenes but I think I have covered the individuals with the most unique characteristics. These were fun to explore and recreate on paper.

Barely Bear

This bear is very simply two pieces of leather stuffed and stitched together.  He has a string of beads around his middle and a circular brand of some type on his rump. On his back is an arrangement of feathers then a beaded hanger. maybe for the Christmas tree. I like that there is no face or eyes. Barely a bear. (Minimal)

Grandpa's Ride

There used to be a matching boat but now this is just a feed truck, going to the dump truck, and sometimes he uses it to herd Buffalo from here to there. There's a big front seat; plenty of room for all the grand kids.

American Bison

Hot day. Just about to cool off with a coating of dust.  It wouldn't work for me or my friends but these guys love it.  I was thinking some nice cool purples and blues  could make him think twice about a wallow in the dirt.  My great nephew thinks I should have just used brown but I didn't have any earth tones in my palette.  Maybe next time, crimson and orange.

A Day to Waterolor Sketch

Today was the weekly sketch meeting after the breakfast. It's hard to keep a regular sketching schedule in the summer because of the outdoor distractions and Carolyn is off babysitting her grandkids.  Today Celeste and I did finally get tgether to paint. Yay! Had a great session.  If you would like to see the rest of our accomplishments check these out.

Frog Lake , Mt Hood

We stopped at Frog Lake on Mt Hood so the kids could look for tadpoles and have a picnic.  We watched lots of those little pontoon boats with a single fisherman.  The water was high and pretty cold so we saw quite a few trout being caught.  The guys having the best luck were using flies. Some guy showed us the 20 inch trout already on ice. I had time to do some sketching  and get some pictures after lunch.  From past experience I know the lake perimeters will be loaded with frogs in August.
